WENTWORTH INVESTS IN FLEET OF TYM TRACTORS AS PART OF WIDER £1.2M DEAL
World-class tournament venue Wentworth Golf Club, in Surrey, has taken delivery of eight TYM tractors, marking part of a wider £1.2m deal with Lely UK.
As sole UK distributors of TYM and Toro, Lely has secured a five-year renewal agreement that, alongside the tractors, includes a 95-piece Toro super-fleet made up of mowers, utility vehicles, aeration machinery and top dressers.
As a whole, the deal is one of the largest ever to be done by Lely, and is thought to be one of the biggest of its kind in Europe.
Making up £165,000 of the overall £1.2m deal, the new TYM fleet – all of which has been bought with cabs – comprises two T353 with HST Transmissions; three compact T503 Manuals; two T603 Manuals, which offer great manoeuvrability; and one T903 Powershuttle, a reliable tractor featuring large dual entry doors and front fenders. All also have the Auto PTO function as standard.
Kenny MacKay, course manager and golf director at Wentworth, says he’s been very happy with the TYMs since they’ve been in action across the club’s three 18-hole courses and vast grounds, noting that his teams have been equally impressed by the tractors’ performance and comfort.
“We trialled the TYMs with the heads of all four of our turf maintenance teams, three of which have a head greenkeeper, and one a head groundsman. They all said that they were happy with the choice, saying that not only were the machines comfy, but they’re also easy to work,” he says.
“In addition, our mechanic’s feedback was that they’re great from a servicing perspective, with parts easy to access, which is a real bonus,” Kenny adds.
As one of the most prestigious names on the British golfing scene, Kenny is confident Wentworth’s reputation is in safe hands with his new fleet. And with the BMW PGA Championship 2015 swiftly approaching, Wentworth is set to be the perfect host.
New TYM Tractor A Hit With Woodhall Spa

NEW TYM TRACTOR A HIT WITH WOODHALL SPA GREENKEEPING TEAM
TYM has been dubbed a hit with the greenkeeping team at Lincolnshire’s Woodhall Spa Golf Club following the arrival of a new T603 late last year.
Owned by the England Golf and home to the National Golf Centre, the club boasts two magnificent courses – one of which, the Hotchkin Course, is rated among the world's finest heathland golf experiences and ranked in Golf World magazine's Top 100 Golf Courses in the World.
This world-class reputation is upheld by courses manager Sam Rhodes and his team of highly skilled greenkeepers; 14 of which, says Sam, have been putting the new tractor to good use since it arrived on site.
“We have 14 guys that use it here and they all really like it, which is the important thing,” he says. “The TYM has been in action on both courses throughout winter, mostly aerating the fairways.”
A robust 60 horsepower model, the T603 is the largest vehicle taking residence at Woodhall Spa. “It’s the biggest tractor in our fleet and it bosses the job!” says Sam. “It has all the features of other brands, but is better value for money – the build quality is excellent and it’s also operator-friendly.”
The T603 features a 50 degree turning angle, which offers great manoeuvrability, and an open ergonomic cab, providing comfort for the operator. Three sets of hydraulic remotes also enable a wide range of applications to be carried out.
As well as being pleased with his recent tractor purchase, Sam also notes that he’s found both local dealer Chris Sellars Groundcare and TYM distributor Lely UK – also Toro’s only UK distributor – great to work with.
“We have all Toro machines here at Woodhall, which we also got from Lely and Chris, so it’s great dealing with the same supplier and dealer for our tractor needs. They know how we work, and we get great loyalty and service with a long-term relationship. If there are any issues, we know they’ll be on hand straight away,” Sam adds.
TYM Tractors Compliment Toro Fleet At Edgbaston GC

TRIO OF TYM TRACTORS COMPLEMENT TORO FLEET AT EDGBASTON GOLF CLUB
Birmingham’s renowned private members golf club, Edgbaston, has invested in three TYM tractors as part of a larger deal with turfcare equipment providers Lely UK.
The club, which enjoys a unique parkland setting just a mile from the city centre, has taken delivery of a T353, T503 and T603 in a £1/2m investment that includes 19 of Toro’s mowers and Workman utility vehicles.
Spanning five years, the deal is set to address all maintenance requirements at Edgbaston, ensuring its challenging natural parkland course is maintained in perfect condition throughout the seasons.
Course manager Eddie Mills comments on the club’s investment in TYM. “I am really happy with my machines; TYM are the best for all-round value in the market,” says Eddie.
The T353 model features a 35hp four-cylinder Mitsubishi engine, dual dry air cleaner and excellent turning radius with maximum traction. For a more compact tractor that’s ideal for big jobs, Eddie went for the T503, with foldable ROPS, projection headlamps, dual air filter and hydrostatic power steering.
One feature that Eddie and his team particularly appreciate is the spacious cabs that TYM tractors have and the T603 is no different with a comfortable open ergonomic cab. “It’s great to have comfortable, spacious tractors to use; it makes it much more enjoyable to ride,” says Eddie. Other features of the T603 include a 50 degree turning angle, optional powershuttle, 60hp, 18.48 gallon fuel tank, and, like the T503, dual air filters and foldable ROPS.
Following a demo of the TYM tractors, Eddie says he was confident they would complement the club’s Toro purchases.
“The TYM tractors are great companions for the Toro machines we have at Edgbaston Golf Club, offering us great support and reliability. They provided substantial help through the winter months and will come in very useful with future construction planned for the club and course,” he adds.
New TYM Tractor With Enhanced Performance

NEW TYM TRACTOR WITH ENHANCED PERFORMANCE AND IMPROVED EMISSIONS STANDARDS ARRIVES AT LELY UK
Lely UK has introduced the new T754 to its extensive line-up of TYM tractors available in the UK.
With a 74hp industry-leading Deutz engine and improved emissions standards, the T754 offers enhanced performance and engineering excellence.
Suitable for a wide range of markets, from golf and fine turf, groundscare and landscaping to schools, colleges and small holdings, this heavy-duty vehicle has a solid chassis and a spacious, fully air-conditioned cabin, ensuring all-round comfort.
Lely’s national sales manager Jeff Anguige explains more about the new tractor’s key benefits: “The T754 is a great addition to our range of TYM tractors here at Lely. The chassis is the same size as our 60hp models, but has a larger horsepower and a hitch capacity of 2,327kg. Emission standards are also greatly improved on this model, with the T754 meeting Tier 4.”
Other features include a dual air cleaner, an intuitive digital instrument panel and a position/draft control and one-touch PTO on/off control.
Now available for delivery, the new model has been building up interest among greenkeepers, groundsmen, contractors and landscapers alike since it went on show at last year’s Turfcare Live event, run by Lely.
Offering customers and prospective buyers the chance to see all the latest turf maintenance equipment distributed by Lely – including Toro, Otterbine and TYM – Turfcare Live visitors were able to test drive the T754 and gain valuable advice on operating techniques from Lely’s experts.
“Since the event, we’ve seen enquiries ranging from small holdings, landscape contractors and hire companies, right the way though to golf and racecourses needing to aerate large areas,” says Jeff.
The T754’s tyres can be ordered to spec, with options including turf, industrial and agricultural (pictured).
Lely’s comprehensive range of TYM tractors, including the T754, is available for free demonstration, offering buyers full evaluation of the product at their own site conditions before purchase.
Spratton Hall School Invests In New TYM Tractor

SPRATTON HALL SCHOOL GROWS INVESTMENT IN LELY WITH ADDITION OF NEW TYM TRACTOR
Independent prep school Spratton Hall has taken delivery of a new TYM T503 tractor – an investment that’s quickly shown its worth since it arrived earlier this year.
Situated in 50 acres of lush Northamptonshire countryside, the establishment has an exceptionally good reputation, both in terms of education and the aesthetics of the school’s vast grounds.
Helping maintain this reputation is the job of head groundsman Doug McCarlie, who decided to demo a range of tractors when the need for a new vehicle arose.
“We tested out tractors from a few market leaders, including TYM, but quickly discovered that the TYM T503 was the best fit for us,” explains Doug. “Not only did we find it offers great visibility, is straightforward to use and is exceptionally roomy, but the fact that TYMs are supplied by Lely UK was an additional bonus.”
Spratton Hall has been using a Toro Groundsmaster 4500-D for the past five years; a purchase that was also made with Lely, the UK’s sole distributor of Toro machinery.
“Through our interest in Toro, we’ve successfully done business with Lely for years, so felt that using the same distributor for all our turfcare needs really made sense,” he says.
Dealing with Stewart Jeffs, one of Lely’s specialist groundscare retail sales managers, was also instrumental in Doug’s decision.
“We’ve got a great relationship with Stewart and have always respected his knowledge and advice, so were confident the tractor he recommended would be equally as good as our Toro machine,” he adds.
Since taking delivery, Doug has been busy putting his new tractor through its paces and it’s lived up to his expectations.
“Our new TYM is a pleasure to use,” says Doug. “Since it arrived, we have been busy harrowing, slitting and fertilising and have even put it to work snow ploughing twice this year already!
“Whatever the job, the design of the cab makes it that much more comfortable to use and the control system is fantastically simple to operate. Even with the snow plough fitted, you can still drive the vehicle using the same controllers, which is a real benefit.”
Edgbaston Golf Club Switches To Toro

EDGBASTON GOLF CLUB SWITCHES TO TORO MACHINERY IN £1/2M DEAL
One of the midlands’ most reputable private members clubs, Edgbaston Golf Club, has invested £1/2m in a new fleet of Toro equipment.
The move sees the club, which enjoys a unique setting just a mile from Birmingham city centre, switch from a competitor’s range to become 100 per cent Toro in an extensive five-year deal.
The investment in Edgbaston’s longstanding 18-hole course, designed by legendary golf course architect Harry Colt, will ensure its challenging natural parkland course is maintained in perfect condition for the duration of the deal and beyond.
In a bid to maintain its proud tradition of offering a great golfing experience for all who play there, course manager Eddie Mills says injecting a significant sum of money into a step-change to Toro was a decision that he, along with his five-strong greenkeeping team and the committee, was happy to make.
“Toro stood out far above the other makes we demoed,” he explains. “We are confident that their range is the best we could ask for and meets our high expectations and demands. We have already seen an improvement in the quality of cut and members have commented favourably on it too.”
The fleet of new equipment brought on board comprises 19 of Toro’s latest models, able to address all aspects of Edgbaston’s course maintenance needs. Products range from a variety of mowers and Workman utility vehicles, to a ProPass 200 top-dresser and Multi-Pro 5800 dedicated sprayer, as well as ProCore SR72 and 648 aerators. In addition, the club has also bought three TYM Tractors – a T353, T503 and T603 – as part of the package from Toro distributor Lely UK.
Having had the chance to put the new equipment to good use, Eddie says he’s particularly impressed with the Greensmaster TriFlex 3420 Hybrid riding greensmower, with its ‘Flex’ suspension and all-electric cylinder-drive system, and the ProPass 200 top-dresser, which delivers extremely accurate spread patterns from light dustings to heavy aeration hole-filling.
Also impressed by the level of support from Lely UK and its area sales manager, Jon Lewis, as well as the club’s local Toro service centre, Meriden-based Redtech, Eddie adds that the team’s help has proved invaluable, ensuring he has the right machines to meet the club’s high course presentation standards.
First TYM Tractor For Gleneagles
The new TYM tractor at Gleneagles.
FIRST TYM TRACTOR FOR GLENEAGLES
Gleneagles has bought its first TYM tractor, a T503 model, which was employed to work alongside its fleet of Toro machines as part of preparations for the 2014 Ryder Cup.
The Gleneagles Hotel has been an exclusive Toro and Lely customer for 10 years and course manager Scott Fenwick says this was instrumental in his decision to choose TYM, for which Lely is also the distributor.
He says: “We have a Toro Exclusive Supplier Agreement here at Gleneagles and have done business successfully with Lely and Toro for the last decade. So we knew the tractor we chose would have to work well with our Toro turf machines. The T503 was used across all three of our championship courses, helping with aeration work pulling a ProCore 1298 as well as brushing and spraying. To get the best results, our machinery and tractors need to work perfectly together and they do.”
TYM models range from 23hp to 100hp to cater to a variety of needs, but Lely says the 40hp and 50hp tractors are particularly suited to the turf sector. At 50hp, and benefitting from a reliable and powerful four-cylinder diesel engine that maximises fuel efficiency, the T503 tractor is a popular mid-duty model. It has a top speed of just over 20mph and is perfect for larger, multi-course golf venues like Gleneagles.
Lely’s Trevor Chard says: “The T503 is a good choice for Gleneagles. It’s a compact size but has a large horsepower so can be used for an array of jobs. Lely searched long and hard for a tractor range that fits with Toro and with TYM we have found that. It’s great to see prestigious clubs such as Gleneagles not only investing in that relationship, but also using it for high-profile international events such as The Ryder Cup.”
New TYM Compact Tractor Is A Hit

NEW TYM COMPACT TRACTOR IS A HIT WITH CARNOUSTIE GOLF LINKS
When you operate machinery at a British Open venue and have 330 acres and 54 holes of legendary golf links to tend, like Sandy Reid, Links Superintendent, and his team of 32 at Carnoustie Golf Links, productivity and operator comfort are key. And that’s where the club’s T503 TYM compact tractor comes into its own.
“The TYM is a pleasure to use,” says Sandy. “When we ask the team to take a tractor to do a job, they’ll all naturally head to and jump in the TYM over and above the others!
“There are two reasons for this and they are the Headland Management System and the design of the cab. Both make the job that much more comfortable and the Headland Management System makes life a whole lot easier.
“The system’s very handy for the aeration work we predominantly use the TYM for and means you don’t need three hands at once! Once the PTO switch is on, it’s all automatic so you don’t have to manually engage or disengage it when the aerator is lifted up and then reinserted into the ground.
“The cab is big and the controls are well positioned. There are other perks, such as air conditioning, but something as simple as getting the design layout for the driver right is key. It reduces the effort required and makes you more productive and precise in your work.”
TYM has made operation control even easier with a switch panel for front and rear working lights and wipers located on the right control stick. A foldable Rollover Protection System (ROPS) provides peace of mind when using the T503 on undulating grounds and slopes.
As well as aerating, the T503 is also favoured for brushing, spraying and applying fertiliser. And with Lely now distributing TYM compact tractors alongside Toro turf machinery, the distributor provides a one-stop-shop for customers who want a quality tractor to work with their Toro equipment.
New TYM Compact Makes Big Impact
NEW TYM COMPACT MAKES BIG IMPACT
Cotswold golf club praises its new TYM compact tractor
Chipping Sodbury has become the latest golf club to choose a TYM compact tractor, for work around its 18-hole Cotswold course. It is one of a growing number of clubs that have opted for a TYM tractor from Toro distributor Lely UK when buying new Toro turf equipment and irrigation products. Lely took on sales of TYM only last year.
Models range from 23hp to 100hp to cater to a wide variety of needs, but Lely says the 40hp and 50hp tractors are particularly suited to the turf sector.
The 43hp T433 model, with its working speed of almost 20mph making it ideal for general turf maintenance duties, is a particular favourite with turf managers. And this was the model chosen by Chipping Sodbury, whose course manager John Keenaghan says he’s been like “a schoolboy in a sweet shop” with his new machine!
“The TYM compact is an incredible machine. The hydrostatic power-steering gives it a wide turning radius, making it easy to use and ensuring no tyre marks are left on the greens,” says John. “We bought the mid-duty 43hp model which is efficient and well suited for venues such as golf clubs. That’s something I am more than happy to vouch for – we aerated all 21 greens on the course in a day with ours!”
All TYM tractors benefit from a reliable and powerful four-cylinder diesel engine that maximises fuel efficiency. Dual-air filter elements protect and extend engine life, and a heavy-duty, four-wheel-drive front axle offers greater traction where needed. Chipping Sodbury’s tractor has an optional cab fitted with rear wipers to provide a clear, wide working visibility.
The tractors are ideal for use with popular Toro turf equipment, such as the ProCore aerator and ProPass topdresser. They can be mounted with an array of other attachments, too, such as loaders and backhoes, from TYM and other manufacturers.
The TYM Compact Tractor Range From Lely
THE TYM COMPACT TRACTOR RANGE FROM LELY
The TYM range of tractors has gone from strength to strength since leading turf machinery distributor Lely UK took on its UK and Ireland distribution.
Established in 1960, South Korean company Tong Yang Moolson (TYM) specialises in the design and manufacture of high-quality compact tractors as well as agricultural equipment. Headquartered in Seoul, TYM is a major contributor to the country’s economic development and produces 10,000 tractors annually for markets in the USA, Australia and Europe.
In these territories, the brand has established itself as the compact tractor of choice among customers as diverse as golf courses, sports stadiums and equestrian facilities. And, since joining Lely’s ‘Partners in Turfcare’ portfolio – alongside Toro, Otterbine aeration and Solo outdoor equipment – the TYM range is proving just as popular among UK and Ireland turf professionals.
Models range from 23hp to 100hp to cater to a variety of needs, but Lely says that the 40hp and 50hp tractors are particularly suited to the turf sector. A popular choice is the 40hp T433 model, with its maximum working speed of almost 20mph making it ideal for general turf management. Or, for a mid-duty model, opt for the 50hp T503 tractor, which has a top speed of just over 20mph and is perfect for larger venues like multi-course golf clubs, sports training grounds and racecourses.
As with all TYM tractors, both models benefit from a reliable and powerful four-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel engine that maximises fuel efficiency. Dual-air filter elements protect and extend engine life. Some models also feature hydrostatic power-steering for effortless manoeuvrability and a wide turning radius. A heavy-duty, four-wheel-drive front axle, meanwhile, offers greater traction where needed.
All TYM tractors can also be upgraded with optional heated and air-conditioned cabs for maximum operator comfort. A radio and CD player can be fitted, too. The cabs are easy to get in and out of, plus provide plenty of working space as well as superb visibility. But models without cabs boast a handy feature as well – the ROPS can be folded down for compact, convenient storage under a low roof.
Other TYM benefits include an easy-to-read LED instrument panel, which displays engine RPM, engine temperature and fuel level, together with a digital hour meter and a power-take-off indication light. A touch-panel control for operating the front/rear lights and wipers is handily located to the operator’s right-hand side. Rear wipers are available on the T433 and T503 cab versions only, and provide a clear, wide working visibility. All models also feature a projection headlamp for improved visibility in low light conditions.
And, with Lely also distributor for the Toro range of turf maintenance machinery, the great news is that TYM tractors are ideal for use with popular Toro units, such as ProCore aerators and ProPass topdressers. The tractors can be mounted with an array of other attachments, too, such as loaders and backhoes from other manufacturers.
